Fab Four

Did you know that the ocean covers 70% of Earth’s surface? And fifty percent of the air we breathe is made in the sea? The ocean takes care of us. It’s about time we returned the favor. And who says saving the planet can’t be fun?

Two years in the making, this CD is a collaboration between the Banana Slugs & five organizations representing (literally!) thousands of marine scientists & educators nationwide. (See the co-sponsors list below.) Like us, these groups all love the ocean and recognize that it is in danger. They have teamed up with the Slugs to teach kids all across the country – from Iowa to Oklahoma, New Mexico to Maine – about this precious resource.

Educators: ONLY ONE OCEAN has Associated Curricula.

All songs are based on “Ocean Literacy: The Essential Principles of Ocean Sciences K-12.” Ocean Literacy is the understanding of the ocean’s influence on you and your influence on the ocean. Educational resources are available here (link: www.oceanliteracy.net) and at the co-sponsors links, below:

Re-Use! Recycle!
The Slugs use 100% recycled paper on business cards, printer paper & wherever possible in our CD packaging. We also use soy-based inks wherever possible. For shipping materials – we re-use boxes & padding materials and, when we’re out of reusables, we use packing “peanuts” that are compostable. It is sometimes a challenge to educate our suppliers and the Green alternatives sometimes cost a bit more but it’s well worth it for the Earth. We encourage all of our friends to do the same (if you don’t already).

The Slugs use Klean Kanteen stainless steel water bottles, instead of plastic bottles. Eliminating plastic bottles from our culture's daily usage is one way we can all help shrink the ocean's trash gyre.
You can read more about the gyre at http://www.precaution.org/lib/08/prn_garbage_gyre.080319.htm
